Socialight Society is a community-centered creative space that specifically caters to Black women who often lack representation in traditional bookstores. Currently we operate as an online bookshop + book club, with plans to open a brick and mortar shop in Downtown Lansing — sooner than later.
We have an immediate goal to raise $10,000. Donations are tax-deductible and will help secure a storefront location, expand our inventory, and establish a free community library.

Will You Help Us Reach Our Goal?
Here Are A Few of Our Current Initiatives...
01
secure storefront
It's our long term dream to own (not rent) a brick-and-mortar space. A portion of donated funds will be saved to help us make this dream a reality.
02
expand inventory
We're passionate about amplifying Black stories, and curating titles written by and for women of color. One of the main focuses of Socialight Society, is to provide workspace and shelf space for artisans that may not receive recognition in larger stores.
03
establish free library
We believe that "readers are leaders," and seek to create programming that promotes literacy among Black children. BB's Free Community Library will allow children the opportunity to receive free culturally relevant books to build their home library.
"Books have been the center of educational for Black folks for decades, particularly in spaces like Black-owned bookstores and Black-led book clubs." (Refinery 29)
Socialight Society sells new books, branded merchandise, and products crafted by local artists. We also host educational workshops and special events.
As business grows, we plan to launch a mobile bookshop and a free community library, to make culturally relevant books accessible and promote literacy among Black children.
"Books are great but creating a space to uplift and center Black women is even better.”
